Fernando D. Lopez

Founder & CEO

Fernando founded LUMA Builders in the beginning of 2022, in an effort to create golden opportunities for others and to leave a legacy and namesake behind for his sons, Lucca and Mateo.  Having been in the construction industry since 2008, his experience is wide and varied, spanning that of Union Ironworker, Union Carpenter, Quality control, and Safety Professional. He has worked with fierce dedication- apprenticing, gaining valuable experience and education- working his way up the ranks, all while securing a Bachelor’s in Occupational Safety and Health from Columbia Southern University.

Driven and passionate in his endeavors- Fernando has set LUMA Builders up for success, making certain that their core values of Safety, Service, Truth and Reliability- are at the heart of everything they do.  The importance he has placed on a company culture of family- means that he cares deeply for his team- ensuring their safety so that they can all go home, the same way they arrived.   He has built a company that is uncompromising in their high level of Safety, Professionalism, and delivery of Quality work, by keeping the lines of communication open for a constant exchange of ideas and collaboration between his team members and with other companies.  “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17 NIV)- in life, as well as in this industry.

Brian Pfaff

VP of Project Management

Brought together by faith and circumstance- Brian joined forces with Fernando to help him see out the vision of LUMA Builders in 2022. Brian started in the Construction industry at 17 years old as a cabinet maker and soon moved to Hawaii to build houses in Lanikai Beach.  He later joined the Carpenter’s Union Apprenticeship, journeyed out and quickly became a Building Engineer in Washington D.C.  In 2015, he moved with his family to California- rising among the notable ranks that led to a position as Salesforce Building Engineer. Brian believes that LUMA Builders’ Safety and Quality is a cut above the rest and he will not compromise in this department or in that of company culture.

Carter Kuehn

Equipment Coordinator

Carter served in the Marine Corps as a diesel mechanic.  During his time in the military, he operated several pieces of heavy equipment.  He displayed remarkable leadership skills, overseeing the motor pool and equipment that was assigned to his unit.   The experience he gained in the military carried over seamlessly to his responsibilities at LUMA.  The fact that LUMA does not compromise on quality is a clear reminder of his time in the Marine Corps.

Compromising on anything can lead to injury and the creation of unsafe environments.  LUMA’s uncompromising ways means a quality job done right the first time, every time.  He joined the LUMA team because of their strong culture of Safety, Service, Truth and Reliability.  The idea of working for a company where everyone behaved more like family made him anxious to help build a company from the ground up.  He wells up with a sense of pride, knowing that LUMA is not just a place of employment, but a place that gives him purpose.
